When you say riddles, it’s is a clever presentation of an object that aims to be solved with the ingenuity of the person who hears it. Many cultures have their own riddles. Arabic riddles are one of the most abundant in quantity and have been considerably studied, those of the Persians are well known, and of course, we Filipinos also have our own set of riddles.

Since Filipinos have been colonized by quite a few countries, it is not known how much of Filipino riddles are in fact “Filipino” and original. So far, they seem to be originated from Europe or has been influenced by European thought, as we have been colonized by the Spaniards for 333 years. Filipino riddles deal largely with animals, plants, and objects that are of local character.

An example of a famous Filipino riddle is: “Pedro hides, but his head is exposed.” I like riddles but I don’t have the patience to actually work on them and try to solve them. Now, isn’t that funny, right?. If that riddle was mentioned to me and the person asks me to solve it, I might have said something such as, “Tell Pedro to work on his hide and seek skills because it sucks.” That’s how short my patience is for riddles. Just kidding, of course.

But on a serious note now, riddles are actually giving you lots of clues as to what it or the answer is, it’s just a matter of deducing and narrowing down the options that you might have in mind with regards to what the riddle is referring to. Notice that the riddle used the name Pedro. Pedro is a masculine name. And men are strong. Then the object the riddle is referring to might be something sturdy. Another clue given is that this object, when it is hidden… you can still see its head. So ask yourself what is it that is sturdy but even though hidden you can still see its head?

You know what it is now? It’s a nail. You know, the one used in woodworks and construction? It’s something as small and bizarre as that! The riddle refers to a simple object such as that.

Riddles or brain teasers are a good way to pass the time. They’re not only fun to solve, but they’re also great on making your mind to think actively. Riddles have been there even during ancient times; they’ve delighted the old Aryans and Greeks, as they still do up until today. Not only are they used for entertainment and to pass the time, but they are also good ways to show that certain Filipino wit.

When it comes to comedy, nobody does it better than Filipinos. Known for having some of the best and funniest humor in the world, Filipinos can surely make any dark day into a bright one. It can actually be shown in their culture – everything seems to have a tinge of humor, even with gloomy scenarios. Heck, even dead-pan politicians get to be the butt of jokes! But for the best of Filipino humor, no one does it best than professional Pinoy comedians. Let’s check out some of the best comedians that the Philippines has to offer:

Dolphy
Nothing stops the King of Comedy on bringing in the laughs. Being in the entertainment business for more than five decades already, this bumbling comedian always has something up his sleeve. From delivering outlandish one-liners, to funny and amusing gag shows, Dolphy has apparently done it all. As a plus, almost his entire family is into the same business as well. His sons have taken the mantle on giving the Filipino public the best laughs, even joining forces on creating comedy movies. It’s such a treat, that the King of Comedy lets his lineage help out with bringing in the joy.

Tito, Vic and Joey
The cool comedy trio, known for their noontime variety show (which apparently, has been around for so many decades), makes sure to bring joy and laughter each day. What’s great about these guys is that they constantly try to reinvent themselves for the better. There’s no same day, no same joke for them! They’ve also ventured into very successful solo adventures – Tito is a renowned senator in the Philippine government, Vic is still a dashing womanizer and powerful advertising endorser, and Joey is an accomplished artist. To get a taste of their bizarre antics – which may turn you in to an instant fan – catch their show each day!

Rene Requiestas
The late Rene Requiestas has made his mark in Philippine Comedy. As a sidekick of Joey in Starzan, a spoof of the famous Tarzan story, Rene launched an unforgettable line, that up to now, is still undefeatable. The scene, him shouting in a canyon, telling everyone that he’s the most handsome person in the world, brought the house down when his echo answered. Apparently, his echo disagreed with his claim. Sadly, Rene died in the early 90s, making him an instant legend in Pinoy Cinema.

It’s no question that Pinoy comedy is one of the best humor in the world. Just knowing these comedians acts can sure tickle your funny bone. Make sure to check them out, and laugh your hearts out silly!
